- Ms. 60:  I don’t rush to write about something like this because from a pure news perspective, it’s a big enough story to have already been covered on SportsCenter, etc., but I would equally be remiss if I failed to say a word or two about Paula Creamer’s remarkable opening-round 60 at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic on Thursday.  Starting on the back nine, Creamer initially played solid enough golf, birdieing the 10th, 13th, 17th and 18th to complete the par-37 loop in four-under-par 33.  Upon making the turn, however, she caught fire, recording seven birdies in nine holes, all of which added up to an inward seven-under-par 27, and a remarkable 60.  Among relevant items to be noted, Creamer did not have a chance at 59 – unless, of course, she’d holed her 7 iron approach to the final green.  Also, though obviously aware that she was tearing it up, the 21-year-old Pleasanton, California native erroneously believed the par of the Highland Meadows layout to be 72 (it is actually 71) and thus was unaware that she’d been flirting with a 59 – though as she birdied the final three holes, it is difficult to suggest that things might have unfolded differently had she known.  And Creamer, whose recent form has been steady but unspectacular (her last win came in early May), did not post her magical round on a course being shredded by low scores; indeed, her 60 resulted in something we don’t see everyday on any professional tour, a five-stroke opening-round lead.  And lastly - and most unfortunately - due to heavy pre-tournament rains, lift, clean and cheat rules were in effect on the fairways.  Creamer's inward 27 tied the all-time LPGA record for a nine-hole aggregate, and her overall score made her the fourth player to shoot 60 in an official LPGA round (following Meg Mallon, Jung Yeon Lee and Anna Acker-Macosko).  Annika Sorenstam, of course, holds the all-time LPGA scoring mark by herself, having carded a remarkable 59 during the second round of the 2001 Standard Register PING at Phoenix’s par-72 Moon Valley Country Club.  And what about that not-unimportant question of how one follows up such a devastating round?  Creamer managed to avoid the day-after blahs comprehensively, carding a six-under-par 65 on Friday to hold a six-shot halfway lead over Eun-Hee Ji.  Hot, hot, hot.
